The New York State Canal Corporation is
seeking the work of amateur and professional photographers as it conducts its
first, statewide canal photo contest.
We want to capture the beauty of the
canal system as it is seen through the publics eye and lens, said New
York State Canal Corporation Chairman Howard E. Steinberg. There are 524
miles of waterway and more than 220 miles of trail each mile filled with
breathtaking landscape and unique panoramic views.
All ages are eligible and each entrant may
submit up to three photos, which will be judged based on theme, creativity and
overall technical quality. The owner of the winning photograph will receive
$250. Twelve second-place contestants will each be awarded $150.
All thirteen photographs will be on display
at the Canal Corporation booth at the New York State Fair from Aug. 26 to Labor
Day, Sept. 6. The pictures will later be featured in the Year 2000 Canal System
Calendar with the top-placing photograph as the calendar cover.
Snapshots may depict any season, along any
one of the four canals of the New York State Canal System, including the Erie,
Champlain, Cayuga-Seneca and Oswego canals. Photos taken in previous years may
also be submitted.
To participate, each contestant must
complete an official entry form and comply with the official rules of the
contest. Each entry must be received by no later than Friday, July 16, 1999.
