New York State Announces $5.8 Million to Promote Tourism
Matching Funds Program to Boost Local Tourism Efforts Throughout New York

Press Release: NYS, November 13, 2000

Governor George E. Pataki today announced that the Empire State Development (ESD)Division of Tourism, which administers the I LOVE NEW YORK program, has awarded $5,776,600 in matching funds to support local Tourism Promotion Agencies (TPAs) across New York State.

The awards announced today reflect a $1 million increase over last year's level of funding and will be used to assist local tourism agencies throughout the State in the development and expansion of their tourism marketing efforts.

"Whether it's the majestic beauty of the Adirondacks, the seascapes of Long Island sound, or the skyscrapers of Manhattan, no other State surpasses the extensive array of tourist attractions we enjoy here in New York State," Governor Pataki said. "The Matching Funds program offers critical support for local tourism promotion efforts all across the State, so that various regions can help spread the word about everything New York has to offer."

Under the Matching Grants program, awards may by used for the purchase of a dvertising; audiovisual and photography production; toll-free "800" phone charges; Internet startup and upgrades; mailings; posters for official I NY festivals; and various marketing, public relations and research initiatives. The funds can be used to promote multi-county, regional marketing efforts and will also help to ensure the continuity and expansion of the highly successful I NY campaign through the use of advertising and production of brochures.
