New York State Canal Corporation Executive
Director John Platt today unveiled a new Canal Business website designed to
encourage public/private partnerships and foster economic growth all along the
New York State Canal Corridor.
"Governor Pataki has been a strong proponent
of encouraging economic growth through partnerships with the private sector
along the Canal Corridor," said Thruway Authority/Canal Corporation Executive
Director John Platt. "Thats why we are proud to announce today the
launching of the new Canal Business website. This new site will provide
potential developers with all the information necessary to start a business
along or near the Canal System."
The new site, designed in cooperation from
Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation and coordinated with the Empire State
Development Corporation, will foster awareness and interest among private
sector investors regarding the numerous business opportunities available along
the 524-mile Canal System. The New York State Canal Corporation is continually
seeking developers and partners interested in establishing public/private
partnerships and outlets for goods and services that will further promote the
New York State Canal System.
"With the strong support of Governor Pataki,
the Canal Corporation has been very busy promoting the 175th
anniversary of the legendary Canal System," said Canal Corporation Acting
Director Robert Brooks. "Through various marketing and advertising efforts,
harbor projects and Canalway Trail projects, we have been touting the historic
waterway as a unique tourist destination. Creating business partnerships will
only enhance the endless economic opportunities available along the Canal."
The new website was formally unveiled at the
2000 World Canals Conference in Rochester, an international event that has
drawn hundreds of delegates.
Statistics show that approximately 77
percent of business people use the Internet and websites for gathering
information. The NYS Canal Business website will be a viable and appropriate
vehicle for promoting Canal development plans.
